To work within a team and one other waking night, in order to provide a safe and secure home for young people aged between 10 and 18. Promoting a caring environment which provides children and young people with a high standard of specialised care, meeting individual needs and ensuring everyone is treated with respect and dignity and rights to privacy, independence and choices are met.
This role will be responsible for being a shift leader and a key worker to one young person placed at Cherry Blossom. Therefore, you will be a positive role model to both young people and staff, which requires a good work ethic, integrity, openness and an ability to set firm boundaries with a caring approach. |

· Ensuring a firm, caring, consistent, well ordered environment is maintained at all times.
· Supervising young people before and after the school/college day including mealtimes and to proactively support/encourage the development of their cooking and household skills etc. · To actively promote and participate in care planning, developing risk assessments, behaviour management and to attend regular team meetings. · Accompanying children and young people on recreational activities and demonstrating positive role modelling. · Working as part of a team to provide a programme of evening and weekend activities for children and young people and to effectively manage small budgets, in relation to this. · Promoting the social and emotional well-being and development of children and young people and to consistently strive to further develop these skills. · Liaising with other staff, professionals, parents and carers as necessary and maintaining high levels of professionalism at all times. · To attend home visits and to provide a specialist outreach service to young people, family and carers, as and when required. · Undertaking any administrative tasks linked to the care of children and young people e.g. keeping appropriate records, making reports as required by the home and any regulatory bodies. · To maintain a log of all accidents, incidents or physical intervention and to challenge suspected inappropriate practice according to policies and procedures. · To participate in case reviews where necessary and to provide support and assistance when difficulties arise. · Keeping up to date with the home’s policies, young people’s risk assessment and care plans; and to follow them at all times. · To assist in developing strategies in behaviour management and to take a lead role in managing the young person’s challenging behaviour, implementing the strategies agreed. · Assisting with the medical and physical needs of children and young people and to ensure that all young people are encouraged to take part at some level, no matter what the ability. · Promoting of young people reaching their own targets and developmental plans. · Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people that the jobholder is responsible for, or comes into contact with and to regularly stay updated in relation to any changes within safeguarding legislation and policy. · Ensuring healthcare needs of the children and young people are met, including making appointments and accompanying them and

Other responsibilities and duties: | · To become a key worker for a child understanding that child’s particular needs and as key worker to coordinate and organise the service to meet those needs. |
· To undertake all of the recording necessary for the child’s care and
support. · As part of a team to receive the child on admission, and during their time in the unit provide for their physical and emotional care. As part of a team also to make appropriate arrangements for their transition to other services. · As part of a team to follow the 24 hour programme for each child, identifying and assisting the child in their developmental needs, taking part in internal and external activities and community events. · To develop the life and social skills of the child. To understand this and make appropriate recordings of the development. · To prepare for and attend review and other meetings for the child. · To liaise as a key worker with the child’s families, social worker and advocates and to attend appropriate meetings. · To answer the telephone as appropriate taking clear, unambiguous messages, and ensure these are being passed on, and recorded as necessary. · To assist the children with personal care, understanding each child’s particular needs, understanding how to communicate with them and build a solid relationship. · Share your interests, passions and skills with all children in the home, promoting life skills and a broader knowledge base- get them involved in duties in and around the house. · To arrange for the children to attend all healthcare appointments, to accompany them, and to clearly record and bring back to the unit all the information gained from the healthcare specialist. · To accompany the child for whom they have key responsibility in the purchasing of clothing and other necessities. Teaching them to budget and be resourceful. · To check, mend, iron and launder service users clothing, and teach the child how to do this. · To follow organisation’s and home’s Policies and Procedures in the administration and recording of any medication. · To attend monthly team meetings and to take responsible for bringing to these meetings the information required. · To attend monthly supervision sessions, coming well prepared. To be well prepared for and attend the annual appraisal of their work. · To follow the Health and Safety Policy for the home, and to undertake risk assessments at regular intervals for their key service user. · To understand the staff handbook, statement of purpose and safeguarding policy; and keep these in mind with every action taken and whilst on every shift. · To take part in the home’s fire drills, and to understand and follow the unit’s Fire Safety procedures. · To be responsible for the appropriate recording, and upkeep of, the child’s files. This will involve using Clear Care daily. |
· To ensure that the relevant documentation is completed for each shift, which includes the daily occurrence sheet, the diary, the message book, the medication sheets, and the complaints book.
· To complete finance records accurately including petty cash, food money and the child’s personal accounts. · To undertake sleeping in night duty as required. · Be on call alongside the registered manager for the child in your responsibility. · To attend all training sessions as required, and to be responsible for keeping your own training file up to date. · To undertake Shift Leader responsibilities. · To read, understand and practice organisation’s Policies and Procedure. · To undertake all of the above duties and responsibilities in a manner that demonstrates a commitment equality of opportunity, equal access, and anti-discrimination. · To understand the staff handbook, statement of purpose and safeguarding policy; and keep these in mind with every action taken and whilst on every shift. · Attend regular supervision with your line manager and be an active participant in staff meetings. · Attend weekly staff meeting, monthly training and monthly clinical supervision · Be responsible to ask for guidance, support or help processing emotions if you are not receiving enough from the home. |
